Revolutionizing AI: Baidu’s ERNIE Bot Unleashes New Capabilities at Wave Summit 2023

At the Wave Summit Deep Learning Developer Conference 2023 held on August 17, Baidu, a leading AI company, announced a significant expansion of its knowledge-enhanced large language model (LLM), ERNIE Bot. The expansion includes the addition of five native plugins that enable ERNIE Bot to generate rapid results, process long documents, conduct data analysis and visualization, interact with image inputs, and convert text into video. Since its debut in March 2023, ERNIE Bot has seen a 3-fold increase in training throughput and a 30-fold boost in inference throughput.

Baidu also unveiled the latest update to its PaddlePaddle deep learning platform, which now serves eight million developers and 220,000 enterprises. The company introduced the AI-native application InfoFlow, designed to redefine how businesses and developers interact with AI. Baidu Comate, an AI coding assistant, was also launched to support enterprise developers.

Baidu CTO Haifeng Wang highlighted the progress made by ERNIE Bot, which now boasts high-level proficiency in over 200 genres of writing, a 1.6-fold increase in content quality, a 2.1-fold increase in chain-of-thought, and an 8.3-fold expansion in knowledge scope. The new ERNIE Bot plugins are expected to broaden their functionalities, supporting up to three plugins simultaneously.

Baidu's AI Studio (Xinghe Community) has become China's largest AI community, with over 6.09 million development projects. The AI Studio FM Community was launched to offer an integrated development experience for foundation models (FMs). Baidu also announced the AI Studio Co-Creation Plan to foster AI applications in collaboration with developers.

The PaddlePaddle deep learning platform, instrumental in ERNIE Bot's advances, has been upgraded to version 2.5. Baidu also launched PaddleScience v1.0 and PaddleHelix's HelixDock.

LLMs like ERNIE Bot are transforming the enterprise workspace. Baidu's InfoFlow "Super Assistant" can automate operations like task management and document processing. Baidu Comate, the first commercial full-scenario AI coding assistant developed in China, provides smart recommendations for code, comments, tests, and documentation.
