On September 29, 2025, NVIDIA unveiled major updates to its robotics platforms, introducing open-source tools designed to accelerate AI-driven robot development. The new Newton Physics Engine, co-developed with Google DeepMind and Disney Research, now available in NVIDIA Isaac Lab, allows researchers to simulate complex robot movements—like walking on snow or handling fragile objects—before deploying them in the real world. These tools aim to improve how humanoid robots learn and adapt safely in unpredictable environments.

NVIDIA also released Isaac GR00T N1.6, an open foundation model that brings humanlike reasoning to robots. Powered by Cosmos Reason, this model enables non-human workers to break down complex instructions, apply prior knowledge, and complete tasks using common sense. Researchers and developers at institutions like Stanford University, ETH Zurich, and the National University of Singapore are already leveraging these tools to enhance robot intelligence and skill transfer from simulation to reality.

Cosmos World Models Accelerate Physical AI Training

To support large-scale robot training, NVIDIA updated its Cosmos World Foundation Models, which generate synthetic data for physical AI development. These models allow developers to simulate diverse scenarios—like multi-view camera perspectives or object interactions—helping robots learn faster and more reliably. New workflows in Isaac Lab 2.3 teach dexterous grasping for multi-fingered robotic hands, gradually increasing task complexity to improve real-world performance.

Industry Adoption and Future Implications

Leading robotics companies—including Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, and Franka Robotics—are adopting NVIDIA Isaac and Omniverse technologies, demonstrating strong industry relevance. By combining Newton, Isaac GR00T, and Cosmos simulations, NVIDIA is effectively equipping robots with the “brains, body, and training ground” to transition from research projects into everyday AI employees and non-human workers.
